Trace amounts of moisture in adhesives and sealants can lead to issues such as bubbles, foaming, curing irregularities, and storage instability. SNOWPEAK has developed activated zeolite powders to provide moisture absorption, defoaming, and stabilization support for adhesive and sealant systems based on polyurethane, silicone, epoxy, and acrylate.
What Is Activated Zeolite Powder?
Activated zeolite powder or molecular sieve activated powder, is a fine powder produced by subjecting synthetic zeolite to an activation process. It features a uniform microporous structure, a large specific surface area, and selective adsorption capabilities, exhibiting strong adsorption of polar small molecules such as water.
In adhesive and sealant systems, activated zeolite powder serves as a moisture scavenger and desiccant, helping to control moisture levels and enhance product stability.
Core Functions Of Activated Zeolite Powder In Adhesive And Sealant
- Absorbs Moisture and Inhibits Foaming
Adhesive and sealant systems such as polyurethane are prone to bubble formation and foaming upon contact with water. Activated zeolite powder, however, preferentially adsorbs trace amounts of moisture, thereby reducing side reactions and resulting in a denser adhesive layer.
- Enhances Storage Stability
In one-component (1K) adhesive and sealant systems such as polyurethane and silicone, activated zeolite powder helps shield against the effects of moisture, thereby reducing the risk of premature curing, skinning, and thickening.
- Improves Curing and Adhesion
Activated zeolite powder reduces interference from trace amounts of moisture and promotes a more uniform cross-linking reaction, helping to enhance bond strength, weather resistance, and product consistency.
- Extends Pot Life and Improves Workability
In two-component (2K) adhesive and sealant systems, activated zeolite powder helps stabilize the working time; and the fine powder also aids in improving thixotropy, thickening, and filler dispersion.

For product selection, we recommend:
Type 3A activated zeolite powder, adsorbs only water molecules; suitable for systems sensitive to other molecules, such as polyurethanes, electronic potting compounds, and insulating glass.
Type 4A activated zeolite powder, a general-purpose water adsorbent; suitable for a wide range of adhesive and sealant systems.
Type 5A/13X activated zeolite powder, Used for specific adsorption requirements; selection depends on the formulation system.
